How To Setup Your Own Membership Site
Membership site - Right now I don't have a lot of good advice for you on
which scripts to use to set up a
membership site. Why?
Because every good membership site package I've looked at costs thousands of
dollars, plus there's often monthly fees on top of that. But, that doesn't mean
you can't get started right now by using free or inexpensive tools and
techniques.
Here are 7 tips on how to setup your own membership site:
Step one for starting a membership site is to build a list of prospects. And
what's the best way to do that? Give away something of value in exchange. Think
from your site visitor's perspective of "What's In It For Me?" Make it
exciting, irresistible, and above all, valuable.
Step two is starting to create some unique content. One of the best ways to
do that is to create some "how-to" videos using screen capture software or video
shoots. Be sure to use a separate microphone and when shooting video, always use a
tripod to keep the camera steady.
Step three is to study other membership sites. Join a few inexpensive ones
and see what they offer to their customers. You'll notice that most sites offer
downloadable content, discussion forums, how-to advice articles, and not much
else. Think of ways to be different, unique, and "remarkable" because good word
of mouth will quickly grow your membership ranks.
Step four is pricing. Membership sites range in price from $7 a month to $997
a month. Price too low and people won't take you seriously. Price too high and
you severely limit your market. See what other sites in your niche or something
similar are charging their customers. Remember that you can always raise your
price, but lowering it is much harder to do because existing members will get
upset.
Step five is marketing and the best way to do that is with affiliate
marketing. Use ClickBank's program to handle all affiliate details including
payment of initial and recurring commissions. Offer attractive payout
percentages and provide your affiliates with tools like prewritten emails,
banners, ad copy, etc.
Step six is adding back end products and affiliate offers. Depending on your
niche, you could offer a private coaching program with a manageable size group.
Too large and it's hard to give good value. You could also offer specific
training video series on advanced techniques, market other programs and products
to your members.
Step seven is to keep attracting new members. Increase the value of your
offer. Do a crazy promotion offering a free month to anyone who pays a penny
upfront. Keep working your list of people who signed up for information, but
never joined. Create irresistible offers for odd reasons at least once a month.
The good news is that ClickBank now has recurring billing, so you can setup a
membership site without having to get your own merchant account and payment
gateway. Between ClickBank and PayPal, which also handles recurring membership
subscriptions, you've got the cash flow aspect covered.
And there you have it, seven ways to setup your own membership site.
